Rings have been a part of the fashion world for as long as we can remember. We can even trace its use to ancient Egyptian and Greek civilizations. As time went on, different styles of rings emerged with the three-stone design being one of them.

The Origin Story

A strategic marketing campaign in the year 1947 promoted the importance of the diamond engagement ring design during the Great Depression. This campaign also rolled out the red carpet for a variety of new designs, including the three-stone ring. It took the world by storm since its unveiling in the year 2001. Custom three-stone rings were originally pitched for anniversary celebrations. Today, however, it is mainly used for engagements and is considered to be the go-to choice for romantic partners in specific.

What Does It Symbolize?

It has quite a few meanings but the most common is the representation of the past, present, and future of a relationship. Each stone on the ring is also said to symbolize never-ending love and togetherness through a lifetime.

Another popular interpretation of the three-stone ring is fidelity, love, and friendship which are considered to be the essential building blocks of any relationship. This ring design has also made an appearance within the Christian community, where it’s said to signify the father, son, and the Holy Spirit.

Three-Stone Rings Today

Today, three-stone rings are available in various styles and combinations. Instead of being embellished with just diamonds, you can find them featuring a variety of coloured gemstones and in different cuts. One of the more common styles today is having a diamond as the centre stone and a different gemstone on either side.

Things to Keep In Mind When Buying a Three-Stone Ring

1. Decide Which Gemstones You Want

Today the variety of gemstones available is mind-boggling. You can take your pick between classic diamonds or more contemporary stones like morganite or tanzanite. Each gem comes with its own symbolism that makes the ring even more meaningful.

2. Consider Your Budget

Three-stone rings, especially those embellished with diamonds, sapphires, or emeralds, can be pretty expensive. If you have a tight budget, take a good look at different alternate gemstones available. But if your heart is set on diamond then moissanite will be a good option. Similarly, you can find a beautiful and affordable alternative to almost every gemstone. So before picking up a three-stone ring, take stock of your budget and begin your research accordingly.
