Care Tips for Garnets

When wearing and handling your Garnet beauties, it’s essential to keep the following in mind:

1. Store Separately

As with all gems, Garnets can get scratched when placed with other stones. To avoid this, wrap your stone in a soft cloth and store it in a separate pouch or box.

2. Avoid Exposure to Light

Garnets tend to lose their colour when directly exposed to bright light for extended periods. Hence, remember to keep them in a relatively shady or dark place like your wardrobe.

3. Remove It When Necessary

Strenuous exercise could harm the stone and cause its surface to crack. Therefore, it’s best to remove your piece before any strenuous activity like exercising, cleaning, swimming, etc.

4. Keep Away from Chemicals

The chemicals present in everyday items such as cleaning products, perfume, hairsprays, and makeup could negatively affect your stone’s brilliance. When going out, put on your makeup and perfume first before wearing your jewels. Additionally, remove your stone as soon as the event is over to limit its exposure to the chemicals.

5. Pay Attention to The Temperature

Garnets are vulnerable to sudden changes in temperature and could get fractured because of it. To ensure that your stone stays safe and harm-free, we recommend that you avoid exposing it to excessive heat.

6. Clean It Properly

To keep your gem sparkling, you must clean it at least once a month. You can do this by following the steps mentioned below:

  • Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and mix in some mild soap.
  • Dip the piece into the water and gently scrub it with a brush. Pay close attention to the edges as most of the dirt gathers there.
  • Once done, wash away the excess soap.
  • Wipe away the moisture with a lint-free cloth and leave the stone out to air dry completely.

Note: Avoid steam cleaning as that might dull the brilliance of the stone.

7. Take It to a Professional

It is advised that you get your stone checked by a professional at least once a year. They will not only clean the stone and remove the scratches but also tighten loose settings.

Conclusion:

Vibrant, durable, and unique, the Garnet is anything but ordinary. By making this stone a regular part of your wardrobe, you are sure to be the centre of attention every day of the week.
