Push-back earrings are also known as threadless earrings or press-fit labret earrings. The butterfly-shaped pushbacks are easy to slide onto the earring posts and stay secure. On the contrary, flat back earrings are like screw-back earrings as they too have screws that fit onto the post. However, these backings have a flat and smooth surface. They are the most comfortable earring backings and also the most secure ones. Wondering which of these is best for you? Here are the key differences between the two for you to make an informed decision on your next earring purchase –

Push Back Earrings

Push-back earrings come with a top attached to a threadless, plain post that can be easily slipped and inserted into the back side of the earring. The post needs to be bent a little as the piece in the front will secure the back. In absence of this, there are chances your stud may fall out. Hence, to secure your earrings more you would need to bend the post more.

Flat Back Earrings

Flat back studs for lobes or cartilage piercings are considered the most comfortable type of earrings. These earrings come with flat-back screws that are fastened on the earring’s threaded posts, ensuring that the earrings stay put. They are firmly secured in place unless you remove them by unscrewing the flat-backs.

Putting on flat back earrings can seem like a daunting task for some, but we have got you covered. Follow the steps given below to know how to change flat back earrings.

  1. Insert the earring piece from the front of your piercing into the flat backing.
  2. Before securing it, ensure that the earring’s threaded post is perfectly aligned with the backing. This will further make sure that the earring stays secure.
  3. If it is still not tight enough, there is a possibility you may end up stripping the threads and damaging the piece. You should hold the base tightly to secure or loosen your earring.
