No outfit is complete, no matter what the occasion, without a beautiful pair of earrings to go with it.

Being the first thing someone notices, the type of earrings you wear can make or break your entire look. And that is why it is important to know every attribute about the various styles available.

Today, we will discuss the difference between the drop and dangle earrings, which will help you choose the perfect pair.

The definitions…

  • Drop earrings – Falling just below the earlobe, these pieces generally come with a gemstone attached. They are very easy on the eyes and are a great option if you want to draw attention to your face.
  • Dangle earrings – They are relatively large and hang off the earlobe. Dangle earrings beautifully frame the neck and face and can make them look longer and thinner.

How are they different?

These two styles are different in two major ways:

  • Length – While drop earrings are known for their short length, dangle earrings are comparatively longer.
  • Movement – Due to their size, drop earrings are relatively stationary. Contrarily, the length of the dangle earrings gives them more movement and allows them to move to and fro.

Since movement is the main differentiating factor here, many people argue that a dangle earring can also be a drop earring. However, for this to happen the earring attachment must be flexible enough to move easily.

How do you choose between the two?

Selecting the perfect pair of earrings depends on several factors and mentioned below are the most prominent ones.

1. Occasion

As with any accessory, the event that you’re attending should dictate the type of earrings you wear. Dangle earrings can add a lot of fun to an outfit and are more suited for semi-casual events like a girls night out. On the flip side, drop earrings are more reserved and are, therefore, a better option for more formal occasions.

2. Your hair

When not planned properly, it is easy for your earrings to clash with your hairstyle and create a cluttered look. And hence, considering your tresses is extremely important when picking the perfect pair.

If you have short hair or plan on doing an up-do, we recommend opting for a pair of drop earrings. This will draw attention to your hair without stealing the spotlight. Having said that, people with long hair should opt for dangle earrings. The largeness of the design will refocus some of the attention to the brilliance of the gemstones despite your strands covering them.

3. Personal preference

Jewellery is a form of self-expression and at the end of the day, your personal preferences are all that matter. Hence, as long as you’re happy we’re sure that you’ll be able to rock any style.

Final note:

If you are a fan of fine jewellery and love accessorizing, staying up-to-date about the different pieces is a must. By learning the differences in styles and their USPs, you put yourself in a better position to build a unique wardrobe that is true to your personality.

We do hope that this article has helped you on that journey!
