How to Measure Ring Size at Home

The easiest ways to measure your ring size at home are using:

  • The string method
  • Another ring that fits

For the methods mentioned above, you will require our Ring Size Chart, which should be printed with your page scale set to 100%.

Method One: The String Method

Create your own ring sizer

For this, you’ll need:

  • String, floss, yarn, or a thin strip of paper
  • Pen or marker
  • Ruler
  • Printer & paper

Steps:

  1. Cut a piece of string, floss, yarn, or a thin strip of paper enough to wrap around three fingers.
  2. Wrap one end of the string (floss/yarn/paper) around the base of your finger, once.
  3. With a pen (or marker), mark the point where it overlaps.
  4. Straighten the string and, using a ruler, measure from one end of the string to the marked point.
  5. Print our Ring Size Chart and match the length of the string (in millimeters) to the corresponding ring size on it.

Method Two: Using Another Ring

United States of America Ring Size Chart

For this, you’ll need:

  • Scissors
  • An existing ring
  • Printer & paper

Steps:

  1. Choose the ring that fits the intended finger correctly.
  2. Print our Ring Size Chart and lay the ring over each circle till you find the one that matches the inner circumference of the ring, or one that’s close enough. If your ring falls between two different sizes, reach out to us at 1-844-527-4367 or customer.service@angara.com to order the quarter size between them.

Ring Size Chart

Every Angara ring, whether engagement, wedding or stackable, is crafted in standard US sizes. In the chart below, you’ll find these US ring sizes matched to both finger circumference and diameter, along with their corresponding international size.

How Should a Ring Fit?

You know your ring fits well when it slides over your knuckle with minimal resistance and sits snugly at the base of your finger. You don’t want it so tight that you have a hard time taking it off, nor do you want it to be so loose that it just slips off.

Are You Between Ring Sizes?

If you’re stuck between two ring sizes, we recommend that you size up rather than size down. Your finger size can change throughout the day, and if your ring is too tight, you’ll find it hard (and painful) to slide it over your knuckle. If a half-size doesn’t feel right, you can contact us to craft a design in a quarter size for you to get the perfect fit.

Ring Size Tips

Here are some tips that will come in handy when finding the perfect ring size.

Ring-Size-Tips

  • The dominant hand is generally slightly larger. Hence, you should measure the finger of the hand you plan to wear the ring on.
  • The design of your ring matters. The bigger the band’s width, the tighter the fit. Therefore, you should size up (by at least a half size) for chunky bands (>4mm) and size down for very thin designs (<1.3mm).

Note: Ring sizes are generally measured in millimeters (mm) and not in inches (in).

  • The size of your finger can change with temperature; shrinking when cold and expanding when hot. Therefore, ensure your body temperature is normal when using method one (The String Method).
  • As your finger tends to change throughout the day based on what you consume, it’s best to measure your ring size around mid-afternoon.
  • If you have a pronounced knuckle, measure both your knuckle and the base of your finger. Choose a size that falls between those measurements because your ring should neither be so loose that it slips off your knuckle, nor so tight that it’s hard to get past it.

Ring Size FAQs

Are there any tricks to determine someone else’s ring size without them knowing?

If you’re trying to find out a friend or partner’s ring size without their knowledge, the best choice is to select a standard size or something slightly larger. The average woman’s ring size is 6, while for men, it’s 9. You can also borrow a ring that fits them perfectly and match that to our Printable Ring Size Chart. Another way to find out is by asking a friend or family member for their ring size. Whichever way you find their ring size, we advise that you double-check the product detail page to confirm that the ring you intend to purchase can be resized. This will ensure that they eventually get the perfect fit.

Can I resize any ring?

You can resize your ring for free within the first 30 days of delivery. For more information on our policy, see our Repair & Resizing page.

How do I find my ring size at home?

There are two easy ways to find your ring size at home. You can use an existing ring that fits the intended finger perfectly. You can also use a string, floss, yarn, or thin strip of paper. For a step-by-step guide, refer to the methods above.

How loose or tight should a ring be?

Your ring should sit snugly at the base of your finger. It shouldn’t be so loose that it slips off easily, or so tight that it requires force to slide it on and off. Ensure there is only slight resistance when sliding it over your knuckle.

I don’t have a ring sizer. What can I use?

You can use an existing ring that is a perfect fit for the intended finger. You can also use a string, floss, yarn, or thin strip of paper. Match the length to our Printable Ring Size Chart to find your ring size. For a step-by-step guide, refer to the methods above.

I ordered the wrong size ring. What are my options?

You can exchange your ring for a different size within 30 days of delivery at no extra cost. For more information, see our Return Policy page.

My fingers swell throughout the day. What should I do?

To get an accurate size for your ring, it is best to take your measurement when your body temperature is normal, and ideally, around mid-afternoon.

Should I measure with my knuckle or joint?

To get a ring with the perfect fit, measure both your knuckle and the base of your finger. Go for a size between these two measurements.

What finger should I measure for a ring?

Measure the finger of the hand you intend to wear the ring on.

What if I want to wear multiple rings on the same finger?

Go on and stack them. However, more than three rings on any finger can look too busy. When stacking, we recommend that you go for rings with different styles to make each design stand out rather than appear as one whole ring.

What if my finger size falls between two sizes?

You can reach out to us at 1-844-527-4367 or customer.service@angara.com to order the quarter size between them.
