Synonymous with fun, orange sapphire is one gemstone that’s guaranteed to spice up your wardrobe and brighten your life.

Join us today as we highlight all the reasons why you should buy this gem and answer the age-old question – how to tell if an orange sapphire is real.

Is Your Gemstone Real?

Why Should You Buy It?

While there are several reasons why this gemstone is worth the buy, the main ones are as follows:

1. Wearability

The best gemstones are those which can be flaunted daily.

With an impressive 9/10 rating on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, this gem is one of the toughest in the market today.

So, if you ever want to pop the question with a sparkler that reflects your girl’s inherent toughness, trust an orange sapphire engagement ring to get the job done. Trust us, you won’t regret it!

And don’t worry if your woman isn’t a fan of orange sapphires… We’ve got plenty of other colored sapphire engagement rings to choose from. Simply pick her favorite sparkler, customize its gemstone quality grade and carat weight along with the type of metal used to create the piece and we’ll take care of the rest.

2. Rarity

Fun fact: Orange sapphires are one of the rarest variations of fancy sapphires currently available and can only be found in Sri Lanka and parts of Africa. This feature has greatly increased the desirability of this stone and has ensured that it remains in trend for a long time.

Did You Know?

Padparadscha sapphires are the rarest variant in the world. These orange-pink gemstones can only be found in Sri Lanka and are loved for their delicate beauty.

So, How Do You Distinguish Between a Real and a Fake Orange Sapphire?

There are several ways to do this:

Tip #1: Perform the Breath Test

This is certainly one of the easiest and quickest ways to find out if your orange sapphire is made of glass. Bring your gem close to your mouth and breathe on it. If the fog takes more than 3-4 seconds to clear up, then your sapphire is most likely a fake.

Tip #2: Look out for Bubbles

When fake gemstones are made using glass, gas typically gets trapped within their structure during the manufacturing process. This element usually appears in the form of very small bubbles that exist just below the gem’s surface.

A great way to find it is to hold your stone under a bright light and view it through a 10x jeweler’s loupe or microscope. Needless to say, if you do see these bubbles, your gem is probably fake.

Tip #3: Search for Inclusions

Because of the immense pressure under which this gemstone is formed, most of the real orange sapphires found today have several crystal and needle like-inclusions (this, however, does not include bubbles). As such, if you find these flaws upon close examination with a microscope, your gem is probably real.

Tip #4: Touch It

This is an extremely easy way to test the authenticity of your gemstone. All you need to do is gently touch the gem’s surface with the pad of your finger. If it feels cool against your skin, it’s probably real. This is because orange sapphires are bad conductors of heat and therefore take a long time to warm up.

Note:

At the end of the day, only an expert gemologist will be able to tell with absolute certainty whether an orange sapphire is real or not. That said, a great way to avoid getting duped is to buy your sparkle from a reputed brand, like Angara, for instance.

At Angara, we pride ourselves in our amazing collection of orange sapphire jewelry pieces – each of which comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Because of this, you never have to worry about buying a fake.

What’s more, besides orange sapphires, we also have several other colored sapphire jewelry pieces within our collection. So, regardless of your vibe, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect piece for you.
