Regardless of the outfit or occasion, a station necklace is something you can rarely go wrong with. This chic accessory is incredibly versatile and can smoothly transition with you from day to night.

Join us today as we discuss the ‘what’ ‘when’ and ‘how’ of station necklaces.

From the design perspective

To put it simply, a station necklace is a thin metal chain that is embellished with gemstones and/or other adornments that are ‘stationed’ at different points. While you can find variations of this particular style of necklace, it is mainly defined and easily recognised by the evenly positioned embellishments or gems.

A recent trend?

Believe it or not, the history of the station necklace goes back to several decades.

It was first introduced in the year 1974 and was considered to be a classic at the time. However, the public’s interest in this accessory quickly depleted.

The style found itself back in the limelight in 1996 when the design was tweaked for a Hollywood movie and diamonds got replaced with pearls. It was then donned by the lead actress of the now famous romantic-comedy. This look quickly won hearts and caused the station necklace to trend for a few years before dying down again.

This piece of jewellery started receiving love back in 2008 when people started layering their necklaces. The chain’s delicate yet graceful appeal made the entire look more feminine and youthful, which instantly made the station necklace a hit among the masses.

Today, this particular accessory is considered a jewellery must-have. The inclusion of colourful gemstones has made the overall look even more vibrant. People can now also customise the piece with their birthstone or any jewel of their choice.

How to wear a station necklace?

There’s no wrong way to wear this. Thanks to its versatility, the station necklace can be sported for almost any occasion. Here are some ways to include it in your look…

1. Formal Event

The great thing about a station necklace is that it can offer the right blend of glamour and elegance. For a foolproof formal look, team up your best LBD with a pearl station necklace and a pair of pearl studs. Finish off with a sleek clutch and strappy stilettos.

2. Office Wear

Want to look professional yet stylish? Simply team up your pant suit or sheath dress with a blue topaz or blue sapphire station necklace. Blue is a colour that can effortlessly grab attention, while the glitter of the gems will infuse your outfit with sophistication. Tie your hair in a high pony to draw more attention to your necklace.

3. Casual Outing

Whether it’s for a movie, brunch, or a regular girl’s day out, you can’t go wrong with a layered station necklace. Start by wearing a well-fitting tee tucked into your favourite pair of jeans. Team it up with a station necklace of your choice and layer it with a short cross pendant to create a chic look.

Final Note

As mentioned earlier, station necklaces are quite versatile. So don’t be afraid to mix-n-match with different gems and types of pendants to create a look that you truly love!
