When it comes to semi-precious gemstones, the opal is truly one-of-a-kind. Its unique symbolism never fails to make one feel seen and its spectacular play-of-colour can awe even the most distracted passersby. And while these factors are enough to make the opal a worthy buy, many individuals are now investing in it for a rather peculiar reason – its healing properties.

Join us today as we talk about this jewel and discuss whether there’s any merit to this belief.

What is Opal?

At its simplest, the opal is a hydrated amorphous form of silica. Unlike other gemstones, this jewel is generally classified as a mineraloid and not a mineral. It can be found in a variety of hues ranging from pretty pinks to eye-widening whites. What’s more, depending on the stone’s formation process it can feature either an opaque, translucent or transparent surface.

Coming to its durability, the jewel is considered to be quite a delicate piece and has anywhere between a 5.5 – 6.5 rating on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Hence, while it might not be fit for daily use, it can definitely be used to wow the crowd at important social events.
