Ring Sizing 101

Picture this: You’re at a fancy event, flaunting your new accessory, when suddenly, disaster strikes. Your ring decides it’s had enough of the finger life and takes a dive for freedom. And before you know it, you become the ultimate party pooper and insist everyone stop having fun to play hide and seek with your sparkler. We know, yikes! But what if we told you that this entire faux pas could be avoided with the help of a ring size chart?

Don’t know the first thing about it, how to use it or even the best way to measure your finger? Well, that’s where our ring size guide comes in! From talking about the ideal size to giving you tips and tricks on how to measure it at home, this handy dandy article has all the information you need.

Let’s Start With the Perfect Fit

At Angara UK, we like to compare your ideal ring size to the perfect fit!

After all, a ring that’s too loose might pull a Houdini and disappear when you least expect it. And a ring that’s too tight…well, it could leave your finger resembling a sausage desperate to escape its casing.

Here, the perfect ring should be snug enough to defy gravity but loose enough for a smooth slide over the knuckle (the bone joints in the middle of your fingers) with some resistance.

Measuring and Calculating the Ring Size

While there are several ways to measure your ring size, the two surefire options are as follows:

1. Make a Ring Sizer Your Best Friend

Make-a-Ring-Sizer-Your-Best-Friend

Imagine a world where measuring your ring size is as easy as ordering pizza online. Well, lucky for you, with a ring sizer and ring measurement chart, it pretty much is!

For now, let’s focus on the ring sizer – This helpful tool can be found in two flavours: the measuring tape type and the keyring type.

The measuring tape type is as straightforward as a romantic comedy plot. Loop it around your finger, tighten or loosen the belt with the precision of a superhero adjusting their cape and voila! You’ve successfully measured your ring size.

On the other hand (or should we say finger), you have the keyring type. It’s a bit like a magical portal to the realm of perfectly sized rings. Each metal loop on the keyring represents a different ring size, like a tiny, sparkly universe waiting for you to find your place in it. Just try them on until you hit the sweet spot.

2. DIY With a String or Floss

Don’t have access to a ring sizer? This 4-step process will help you measure your ring size at home with ease.

Step #1: Grab some string or floss and wrap it around the base of your finger. It’s worth noting here that string and floss can be as stretchy as your favourite pair of yoga pants. So, don’t yank them too tight unless you want a ring that moonlights as a hula hoop.

Step #2: Mark where the string first decides to overlap, with a pen.

Step #3: Next, whip out a ruler and measure the marked length (i.e. the circumference of your finger) in millimetres. From there, you can easily calculate the diameter by dividing the circumference by pi (3.14).

Step #4: Lastly, check out the UK ring size chart mentioned below to find your true size.

Ring Sizing Tips: The Secret to Getting It Right

1) Keep Your Knuckles in Mind

Keep-Your-Knuckles-in-Mind

If your knuckles typically give the Hulk a run for his money, we recommend ordering half a size bigger. Otherwise, you might end up in a showdown with a ring that refuses to pass the knuckle barrier. It’ll be like trying to fit a giraffe through a keyhole—fun for no one.

2) Measure, Measure and Measure Again

Fun fact: Your fingers shrink when it’s cold and swell when you’re boiling in the summer heat. So, remember to measure it time and time again in different temperatures to ensure you’ve got the right size.

3) Make Sure You’re Measuring the Right Finger

Believe it or not, your hands are unique, just like you. This essentially means that your ring finger on one hand might be playing a different-sized game than its counterpart on the other hand. So, make sure you measure the finger that you plan on bedazzling the most for a fit that’s both snug and comfortable.

4) The Width of the Ring Matters

The-Width-of-the-Ring-Matters

Want to know something cool? The width of your ring can also play a major role in the way it fits. Thick bands (larger than 6mm), for instance, can be a bit snug, so go half a size up as per the actual ring size chart for comfort. On the flip side, slim sparklers like their space tight. So, remember to opt for a snug-fitting size here. Trust us, your slim rings will thank you for the cosy embrace.

Need to Discreetly Find Out Someone’s Ring Measurement?

It’s easier than you think! All you need to do is get hold of another ring from their collection and measure the circumference with a string (you know the drill). You can even ask their friends and family…after all, they may just have the answer that you’re searching for.

So, What Happens If You Pick the Wrong Size?

While different brands have different approaches to the same, at Angara, getting your ring resized is as easy as pie. All you need to do is raise a request within the first 30 days of purchase and we’ll take care of the rest. Plus, the first time won’t even cost you a dime. Pretty cool, huh?

There you have it, the ultimate ring size guide – a journey of strings, knuckles and a ton of FYIs. Now, armed with this newfound wisdom, go forth and adorn those digits with the confidence and flair they deserve. May your rings be snug, your knuckles cooperative and your finger-measuring adventures be the easiest you’ve ever been on!

FAQ

Can your ring size change with age?

It definitely can! As we grow older our fingers and/or knuckles typically tend to swell, thus making even our most easygoing pieces a tight fit.

How do I perfectly measure my ring size at home?

We recommend investing in a ring sizer to ensure the perfect fit. That said, if you don’t have access to one, you can wrap some string at the base of your intended finger, measure the length (circumference) and calculate the diameter accordingly.
